Shared coaches line up outside Terminal 1 arrivals

Cruise Transfer Coaches park directly outside the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 at V. C. Bird International Airport, taking cruise passengers to and from St. John’s cruise port by bus. Look for uniformed staff and signs for cruise shuttles just past the main taxi rank once you exit customs.

These buses run on cruise ship days, usually timed to match specific ship arrival and departure windows published by the cruise lines. Coaches generally leave within 30–45 minutes of passengers clearing immigration, so you are not waiting for hours, but this is not a strict every-15-minutes schedule like a city bus.

Most transfers are sold as part of a cruise package, with prices commonly bundled into the overall cruise fare or quoted per person in the range you see for other Caribbean port shuttles (roughly USD 10–25 each way). If you did not prebook through the cruise line, ask the ground staff at the bus area about same-day spots and exact pricing before boarding.

Coach capacity is standard full-size bus seating, usually 40–50 seats, and luggage goes in the under-floor bays so your suitcases are not crowding the aisle. Compared with taking a taxi from the airport to the St. John’s cruise pier, the bus cost per person can drop quickly once you have more than two travelers paying the flat cab fare.

Driving time between V. C. Bird International Airport and the cruise port in St. John’s usually sits around 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic and weather on Antigua’s main roads. Drivers stick to direct routes along the primary arteries rather than doing multiple hotel stops, so ride times tend to be predictable on non-rush periods.

Coaches generally use simple paper or sticker-style boarding passes checked at the door, and some operators match luggage tags to your bus number so bags and passengers end up at the same pier. Keep your cruise documents and a photo ID handy, because staff may check them again before letting you board the transfer from the airport to the ship.

For your last day, return coaches from the port to V. C. Bird International Airport usually leave in fixed waves linked to ship disembarkation windows, sometimes every 30–45 minutes over a 2–3 hour block. To avoid joining the tightest line, ask the cruise shore staff which coach slot lines up best with your exact flight time out of Terminal 1.

Practical tip: If you like sitting near the front, reach the coach queue at least 10–15 minutes before your planned departure window so you are not stuck in the last few seats over the rear axle for the 20–30 minute ride.
