Ten minutes from Berchem by bike, ANR is easy riding
Antwerp International Airport (ANR) sits about 4–5 km from Antwerpen-Centraal, so cycling in from the city center usually takes 15–20 minutes at an easy pace. The airport is in Deurne, just off the N12 (Borsbeekbrug/Herentalsebaan corridor), and most riders approach via existing city bike lanes that link the center with Borgerhout and Deurne.
You ride on standard Antwerp fietspaden almost the whole way, with protected lanes on main streets like Plantin en Moretuslei and Binnensingel for several kilometers. The airport perimeter connects to local streets such as Luchthavenlei and Diksmuidelaan, so the final approach feels like riding into a neighborhood, not an industrial park.
Plan on 5–10 extra minutes at the airport to lock up, since you need to find a spot near the terminal entrance on Luchthavenlei 2100. ANR is small, with one passenger building, which makes it straightforward to roll right up to the front area, dismount, and head straight inside to check-in.
There’s no staffed bike station or rental hub at ANR itself as of 2024, so bring your own lock and use the public racks or sturdy railings near the terminal doors. Regular city bike rentals and Antwerp’s public bike system are clustered within a few kilometers, closer to Antwerpen-Berchem station and the inner Singel, rather than at the airport curb.
Cyclists usually budget 20–25 minutes from the Grote Markt, 10–15 minutes from Antwerpen-Berchem station, and under 10 minutes from Deurne proper. If you’re catching an early flight before 07:00, street lighting along the main routes covers most of the ride, but pack lights for the darker residential stretches around Deurne.
In rain or winter, trams 9 and 11 or bus lines from Berchem can backstop your plan if riding the last 4–5 km feels like too much. One practical tip: screenshot a map of the last 2 km to Luchthavenlei before you set off, so you’re not stopping mid-cycle to reload directions on a corner of the R10.
