24/7 access, South Terminal Level 1 behind the escalators

This Military Lounge in ANC’s South Terminal near Gate 1 runs 24 hours a day and feels more like a quiet room with snacks than a full airline club. It mainly serves active duty personnel, vets who qualify under USO-style rules, and eligible family members transiting through Anchorage.

You’ll find the entrance airside on Level 1 of the South Terminal, tucked behind the main escalators rather than on the usual departures level. If you’ve come from the North Terminal, clear security into the South side, then walk toward Gate 1 and look for signage pointing downstairs to the military area.

The big draw is the hours: this is one of the only spaces in ANC that stays open 24/7, including late-night banks and those rough 02:00–05:00 connections. Regulars use it overnight when the main terminal quiets down, treating it as a place to rest between flights or deployments instead of camping out in the open seating by the South Terminal food court.

Amenities stay basic: expect chairs, a few couches if you’re lucky, simple snacks, and drinks from machines or a small counter rather than a staffed bar or hot buffet. Compared with airline lounges in larger hubs, reviews call it functional and spartan, so plan on using airport showers or food options near Gate 1 and the other South concourse gates if you want something more substantial.

Access works on a USO-style basis, typically for active duty, some Guard/Reserve, certain retirees, and eligible dependents, rather than for general Priority Pass or credit card holders. If your status is edge-case, bring your CAC, military ID, or dependent card and be ready to show same-day travel from ANC printed on your boarding pass or mobile pass.

Watch out for limited seating during peak movements, especially during military charter times or in winter when ANC handles more diversions and cargo-related traffic. Noise levels depend heavily on who else is passing through; at 03:00 with two families and a squad, it can feel more like a staging room than a nap zone.

Tip: If you’re landing into the North Terminal on an international or charter flight and plan to sleep here, budget at least 30–40 minutes to transfer, clear formalities, get to the South Terminal, and find the Level 1 lounge behind the main escalators.
