Near international gates in T1, Shanyrak Cafe beats wandering around hungry
Shanyrak Cafe sits airside in Terminal T1, handy if you’re waiting on an international flight out of Almaty International Airport (ALA). It’s one of the more visible sit-down spots once you clear security and passport control, so you don’t have to stray far from the main gate area to find a table and a hot meal.
Figure mid-range airport pricing: expect to pay roughly café prices you’d see in central Almaty rather than fast-food numbers, with mains typically landing in the mid four-figure tenge range. You can usually get a basic coffee for less than many international chains in ALA, which helps if you’re watching spend before a long-haul ticket in T1 already hit your wallet.
The menu leans toward standard café fare with Kazakh touches, so think simple hot dishes, a few lighter snacks, and coffee or tea rather than a full white-tablecloth spread. It works fine if you have 40–60 minutes before boarding and want something more substantial than a snack from a kiosk, but it’s not the place to stage a three-course dinner before a red-eye from T1.
Service runs on typical airport time: they know passengers in T1 are watching the clock, so food generally arrives quickly enough for a one-hour layover. You order, eat, and still have a buffer to reach gates that can be a 5–10 minute walk from the café, depending on where your flight boards in the international wing.
Tip: check your gate on the T1 departures board before sitting down at Shanyrak Cafe; some remote stand flights board by bus from the far end of the terminal, and you don’t want a 10-minute power walk after your last cup of coffee.
