Fresh seafood before security at AKJ just lost an option
Nijotei on the 2F of Asahikawa Airport’s Domestic Terminal (T1) used to cover the local fresh seafood niche before security, but it’s now marked “currently closed” on the official terminal map. That leaves anyone craving Hokkaido fish with far fewer choices in the public area, especially if you wanted a proper sit-down meal while waiting for arrivals or checking in early.
The sign and listings still show Nijotei’s old hours as 11:00–20:00, but don’t trust that; doors are shut and there’s no staff. It sits landside, not past the security checkpoint, so you can’t count on grabbing seafood here after you clear screening for a late afternoon ANA or JAL departure. Plan on eating elsewhere in the terminal or in town before heading to AKJ.
Listings describe Nijotei as serving local fresh seafood, which would have been rare on the 2F restaurant floor, but there are no recent photos of dishes or prices, and recent guides all repeat the same “currently closed” status. If you’re aiming for crab, sashimi, or grilled fish tied to Hokkaido waters, assume this spot is off the table and adjust your expectations for the rest of T1.
Right now there are no clear reopening notices, just the static “closed” tag on the Hokkaido Airports site. Staff at information counters have reportedly been pointing passengers to other eateries in the same building instead. Treat Nijotei as history until the airport site updates the status or you see lights on and menus out again.
Tip: if seafood is non‑negotiable, eat in Asahikawa city before your ride to the airport, because Nijotei’s pre-security closure at T1 makes last‑minute seafood at AKJ a gamble.
