Main Terminal at AKD: built, but effectively mothballed

Akola Airport’s Main Terminal exists on paper and on satellite maps, but there is no scheduled commercial service using it today. The building is a small domestic terminal layout meant for regional flights within India, yet airlines have pulled out, leaving it functionally dormant.

All current references list only one terminal code: Main, so if your ticket or trip sheet mentions any other terminal at AKD, that information is outdated. The facility was set up for check-in counters, basic security, and a compact departure hall, but these areas are not running like a normal passenger terminal.

No catalogued restaurants, snack kiosks, or coffee stands appear in recent airport databases for Akola, and on-the-ground reports do not list a single branded outlet. If you somehow have to pass through here for a charter movement, assume zero food options inside the Main Terminal and eat in town first.

There are no lounges listed for AKD in airline, credit card, or independent lounge networks. That means no paid-access business lounge, no VIP room you can buy your way into, and no priority program coverage. Any crew or passenger waiting on a private or charter flight usually sits in small waiting areas or is handled through local ground agents.

Retail is also a blank slate: airport guides show no duty free and no regular shops inside the Main Terminal. Expect no last-minute SIM cards, chargers, or travel-size toiletries here, unlike larger Indian domestic airports where a few convenience stands are standard.

Most current use at Akola leans toward general aviation and charter traffic, coordinated in advance by operators rather than walk-up passengers. If your trip involves AKD, you’re likely dealing with a corporate, medical, or private movement, with formalities arranged via handler instead of a ticketed airline check-in desk.

Practical tip: treat AKD’s Main Terminal as a basic airfield stop and plan like there are no passenger services at all—sort out food, cash, ground transport, and mobile data in Akola city before you come out to the airport.
