Main Terminal

Main Terminal at AJY is the only passenger building

The Main Terminal at Mano Dayak International Airport in Agadez handles all scheduled passenger traffic, since AJY runs as a single-terminal, single-runway field serving the city and nearby desert areas. With only one terminal, there’s no airside transfer puzzle or terminal hops to think about.

AJY sits a few kilometers outside central Agadez, so plan extra time for the drive on local roads and for any security checks at the terminal entrance, especially during hotter afternoon hours when traffic to and from the city can slow. Taxis typically quote a flat price into town, so confirm the fare in West African CFA francs before you get in.

The airport’s published data lists Mano Dayak as an international-capable field, but recent flight trackers show very limited scheduled activity, with some days seeing no commercial departures at all. That means check-in counters in the Main Terminal may open only close to flight times, not all day, and you should arrive early enough to deal with any manual processes.

No dedicated passenger lounges are catalogued for the Main Terminal, and there are no airline-branded clubs on current maps or schedules. Expect a basic waiting area with standard seating rather than quiet rooms, showers, or workspace; charge devices in advance, as outlet availability can be hit-or-miss in small Sahel airports.

Restaurant listings for Mano Dayak show no confirmed food concessions in the Main Terminal, and online reviews don’t name specific cafés or snack bars inside security. Bring bottled water and snacks from Agadez itself, keeping in mind liquid rules at security and local temperatures that can routinely climb above 35°C by mid-afternoon.

Retail options at AJY also don’t appear in any global or regional airport shop directories, and no duty-free shop is documented for the Main Terminal. If you need essentials like sunscreen, basic medicine, or a local SIM card, buy them in Agadez before heading to the airport, since you may not find a pharmacy or electronics stand once inside.

Because there’s only one terminal, all passengers—arriving and departing—pass through the same Main Terminal halls and the same landside forecourt. Immigration and customs for international flights, when they operate, sit immediately after arrival in the terminal, so keep travel documents and arrival cards ready before you leave the aircraft stairs or bus.

Mano Dayak’s single-runway setup means weather, sand, or military activity in the region can impact operations more than at multi-runway hubs, and the Main Terminal waiting area can fill quickly when a delayed flight finally boards. Build the buffer: aim to be at the terminal at least 2 hours before any international departure from AJY, even if it’s the only flight on the board that day.
