Airport buses line up directly outside T1 at Lengpui

The Passenger Terminal transport area sits just beyond the main exit of T1 at Lengpui Airport (AJL), less than 100 meters from baggage claim. Look for the signed “Passenger Terminal” stand where airport buses and shared vehicles wait in a single row. Services generally sync with arriving flights in the morning and afternoon, so you rarely wait more than 20–30 minutes once you step out.

This is a basic ground-transfer point rather than a ticket office, so buy or confirm your ticket directly with the driver at the Passenger Terminal stand. Fares into Aizawl town typically fall in a low, fixed range per seat; most drivers prefer cash in Indian rupees. If you land on one of the late morning flights into AJL, expect a short queue of 10–20 people for the next departure toward the city.

Shared vehicles and minibuses from the Passenger Terminal usually run only when there is an arriving or departing flight on the day’s schedule. First services tend to appear roughly 30–45 minutes after the first morning arrival, and the last ones leave within about an hour of the final evening departure. Build at least 60 minutes of margin between your planned bus arrival at the airport and a check-in cutoff time, especially for flights closing counters 45 minutes before departure.

There’s limited shade and seating around the Passenger Terminal loading area, with only a handful of benches close to the curb. In summer, mid-day temperatures in Mizoram can push above 30°C, so carry a bottle of water from inside T1 before you exit. The walk from the baggage hall to the curb takes under 5 minutes, but queues at the vehicles themselves can stretch for another 10 minutes when two flights land close together.

Step-by-step, it works like this:

  • 1. Collect bags from the single baggage belt in T1 at AJL.
  • 2. Walk straight out of arrivals for about 80–100 meters to the signed Passenger Terminal transport zone.
  • 3. Check the vehicle signboard or ask the driver to confirm the destination, usually Aizawl town.
  • 4. Pay the fare in cash (Indian rupees) before boarding or immediately after taking a seat, depending on the driver’s preference.
  • 5. Keep your boarding pass or e-ticket handy; drivers sometimes confirm you are matching the right flight time for returns.
  • 6. On the return, plan to reach the Passenger Terminal bus stop in town at least 2–2.5 hours before a domestic departure from AJL.

One tip: if your flight lands late and the curb looks quiet, ask any remaining taxi or staff at T1 about the next Passenger Terminal vehicle before you leave the airport area; once the last flight’s crowd clears, services can shut down quickly for the day.
