Five minutes and you’re at your hotel: Airport Taxis from AIT

Airport Taxis at Aitutaki Airport (AIT, single terminal T1) run the quick 5-minute hop into the main accommodation areas, trading higher cost for pure simplicity over the bus. This is the door-to-door option for people who would rather pay $8–10 NZD than think about timetables or walking with bags in the heat.

Cars wait outside T1’s small arrivals area, usually right by the exit where you pick up bags from the single belt within a few minutes of landing. The ride into town or to waterfront guesthouses clocks in at roughly 5 minutes, and drivers quote $8–10 NZD for most standard hotel runs, similar to the Rome2Rio estimate for short Aitutaki trips.

Fares are typically per car, not per person, so a couple or small group can split that same $8–10 NZD and come out ahead versus multiple bus tickets. You pay the driver directly in cash at drop-off; expect New Zealand dollars, the same currency you used at Rarotonga Airport, to be accepted as standard.

Rome2Rio lists several Cook Islands taxi outfits on the Rarotonga–Aitutaki route, including Seeplus Taxi, Rainbow Taxi, Atupa Taxi, Price Taxis, and AJ Taxi Services, which gives you names to ask your hotel about if you want a pre-booked pickup. Many small properties around Aitutaki are used to arranging cars from the airport and will confirm an $8–10 NZD ballpark in your booking email.

Service is informal: no meter, no app, just a straight quoted price for a 5-minute ride from the terminal to your bed. On late Air Rarotonga arrivals, drivers usually time their run to the single flight, so you are not stuck waiting in front of T1 for half an hour after you clear the tiny arrivals area.

Tip: Ask your accommodation to confirm the current taxi rate before you land; if they quote more than $10 NZD for a standard 5-minute AIT transfer, push back or ask them which local operator (Rainbow, Price, Seeplus, etc.) they are using.
