Terminal ITEM hosts Contour Airlines.

Two Contour check-in counters cover the whole commercial terminal

The Commercial Terminal at Athens Ben Epps (AHN) is a single-room setup with just a couple of Contour Airlines counters and one small security checkpoint. All scheduled passenger flights funnel through this space, so you see your check-in desk, TSA, and boarding area the second you walk in the door. No terminal codes, no concourses, no gate maze to think about.

One building, one gate area, zero need to show up two hours early

This is a true small-field operation: one commercial building, a short walk from the parking lot to the front door, and then straight through to a single shared gate area used by Contour. Most flyers report getting from the curb to the boarding door in well under 20 minutes, even with a checked bag drop at the Contour counter.

Parking sits directly in front of the terminal doors

Short-term and long-term parking sit right in front of the Commercial Terminal, so you step out of your car and you are roughly 100–150 feet from the Contour check-in counters. No shuttles, no levels, no tickets to validate in a far corner of a garage. Pay at the posted daily rate and walk straight in.

No restaurants means you eat before you reach AHN

There are no catalogued restaurants, cafés, or snack bars inside the Commercial Terminal, and there are no grab-and-go coolers past security. If you want coffee, a sandwich, or even a bottle of water at a specific brand, plan to buy it in town in Athens before you drive out to the airport. Bring anything you want to eat on board through the single TSA lane.

No lounges or dedicated quiet zones inside the building

The Commercial Terminal has no airline lounges, no pay-per-use clubs, and no credit-card-partner spaces, because Contour is the only airline and flights are limited. Seating is just rows of standard chairs in the gate area, all in one open room. Power outlets are scattered along a few walls, so charge up at home or in the car first if your device is picky about outlet hunting.

No shops or newsstands, only basic vending at best

There are no catalogued retail shops, bookstands, duty free, or branded kiosks inside this terminal, so you will not find last-minute chargers, neck pillows, or magazines on site. At smaller times you may see only a couple of vending machines with drinks or snacks, and even those are not a sure thing, so pack your own basics in your carry-on.

Security is a single TSA lane with short lines

With just Contour flights on the board, the Commercial Terminal runs one compact TSA checkpoint feeding directly into the shared gate seating. There is no PreCheck-only lane, no Clear pod, and no long switchback queue like a big hub. For most departures, showing up 45–60 minutes before scheduled pushback is plenty, even if you still need to check a bag.

Boarding happens by walking outside to the aircraft

Flights board from ground level; you walk from the gate door across the marked path on the ramp to the parked Contour aircraft. There are no jet bridges at this terminal, so keep an eye on weather and have a jacket or umbrella ready if rain is in the Athens forecast at your departure time.

Practical tip: eat and charge up in Athens, then treat AHN as a straight-through stop

Plan your timing like this: finish food and coffee in town, aim to park at Athens Ben Epps about 60 minutes before departure, walk the 1–2 minutes into the Commercial Terminal, check in with Contour if needed, and clear the single TSA lane. That way you are not stuck in a terminal with no food, no shops, and limited outlets for any longer than your boarding time demands.
