10,000-foot runway, zero public terminal
Amedee Army Air Field’s Main Terminal technically exists on paper, but the airfield at Sierra Army Depot (KAHC) has no passenger terminal building, no gates, and no commercial check-in desks. This is a restricted-use U.S. Army facility about 7 miles northeast of Herlong, California, run for military logistics rather than civilian traffic.
Restricted access, no walk-up passengers
The field sits inside Sierra Army Depot property, which means no public road access without DoD clearance or base authorization. There’s no curbside drop-off, no public parking lot, and no rideshare pickup zone marked for airline use. If you don’t already have official orders or a base contact, you don’t “go to Main Terminal” at AHC at all.
No check-in counters, security, or baggage claim
There are zero TSA checkpoints, zero airline counters, and no baggage carousels at Amedee Army Air Field. Any processing of personnel or cargo runs through military procedures on the depot side, not through a civilian-style terminal hall. Don’t plan on checking a suitcase, printing a boarding pass, or clearing TSA here; this field doesn’t support Part 121 or 135 scheduled passenger service.
No restaurants, lounges, or shops on site
Inside “Main Terminal” there are no catalogued restaurants, no coffee stands, no vending banks, and no airline or contract lounges. You won’t find a Hudson, a USO, or even a grab-and-go cooler listed in any guide. If you’re moving through on orders, any food or rest options come from Sierra Army Depot facilities or what you bring with you.
Runway setup and operations
The airfield has a single Runway 16/34 at about 10,000 feet long and 150 feet wide, built to handle heavy military cargo aircraft supporting depot operations. Lighting, markings, and procedures are tailored to Army use, and any visiting aircraft operate under prior permission required (PPR) rules, not casual GA drop-ins.
No commercial flights, no connections
Flight trackers list AHC as an airport, but there are no scheduled airlines, no passenger flight numbers, and no interline connections here. You can’t connect from AHC to Reno–Tahoe (RNO) or Sacramento (SMF); at best, personnel are moved via military air or by ground from those civilian airports, which sit roughly 70–110 miles away by road.
Planning tip
If orders or a contractor brief mention “Amedee Army Air Field Main Terminal,” confirm ground transport and base access details in writing before you even book your commercial ticket; treat AHC as a secure destination point, not as an airport you can just show up and fly out of.
