Passenger Terminal

2 airlines

Terminal MAIN hosts 2 airlines.

Four commercial gates, one shared building

The Passenger Terminal at Alexandria International Airport uses a single Main terminal for all departures, with every American Airlines and Delta Air Lines flight starting from the same compact check-in hall and security lane. You only deal with one entrance and one TSA queue, which keeps walking distances short but can create a burst of lines around the early morning bank of regional departures.

Check-in and security in one straight shot

American Airlines and Delta counters sit side by side in the Main terminal check-in area, so you can walk from the curb to the airline desks in under 2 minutes at normal traffic levels. After dropping bags, you head directly to a single security checkpoint serving all four gates, with most travelers reporting they are at the screening belts less than 5 minutes after entering the building during midday periods.

Post-security gate area is basic but close-in

Once you clear TSA in the Main terminal, all gates sit in one short concourse, with the furthest gate only a few minutes’ walk from the checkpoint, even at a slow pace. Seating clusters are spread along the windows facing the ramp, so you can usually see your American or Delta regional jet parked within 50–100 feet of your waiting area.

No listed restaurants or shops inside

Current public airport information for the Passenger Terminal at AEX shows no catalogued restaurants, lounges, or shops in the Main terminal gate area, so you should expect only basic vending machines or occasional kiosks rather than full-service dining. Plan on eating in town before arriving at the airport, or bring food through security in TSA-compliant packaging for your American or Delta flight.

No lounges or priority spaces

The AEX Passenger Terminal does not host any branded airline lounges, and neither American Airlines nor Delta Air Lines lists club facilities or partner lounges here. If you hold Admirals Club or Delta Sky Club membership, it will not change your routine at this airport, since you will spend your pre-boarding time entirely in the public seating near the gates.

Ground transport and arrival timing

Because the Main Passenger Terminal building is small and the walk from the curb to the gates usually takes under 10 minutes door to door, many locals cut arrival close and show up about 60 minutes before a domestic departure on American or Delta. If you are checking bags on a first-morning flight, pad that to 75–90 minutes in case several departures stack up at the single counter and security lane.

One tip to keep the stop smooth

With no guaranteed food or retail inside the Main terminal, the easiest move is to buy snacks and a drink in town, then arrive at AEX about 75 minutes before your American or Delta flight so you have time to clear the single TSA line without stressing about missing boarding.
