T2 sit-down Ethiopian option near the international gates
On the departures level of Terminal 2, Ethnic Restaurant gives you a sit-down meal with table service instead of another quick snack at the gate. It’s airside in T2, so you’re fine once you’ve cleared security and immigration for your Ethiopian Airlines or other international flight. Signage just calls it “Ethnic Restaurant,” and it’s one of the few places in T2 where you can actually eat on a plate and not out of a takeaway box.
Food leans classic Ethiopian: expect injera with lentils, tibs, and stews alongside basic Western dishes like pasta and simple grilled meat. Portions run large by airport standards; a main plate typically feeds one hungry adult and can stretch to two lighter appetites. Prices sit in the mid-range for Addis Ababa Bole: think roughly local restaurant prices marked up for the airport, not luxury hotel levels but definitely more than downtown Bole Road.
Service runs on Addis time, especially during the late-night bank of Ethiopian Airlines departures between 22:00 and 02:00. Staff are used to passengers on 23:55 and 01:20 long-hauls, but a full injera spread can still take 20–30 minutes to hit the table. If your connection is under 90 minutes, stick to one hot dish or a snack plate, pay as soon as food arrives, and keep an eye on the clock rather than waiting for the bill at the end.
Seating is regular dining tables, not lounge chairs, and you’ll find power outlets at only a handful of spots along the walls. Bathrooms are the main terminal restrooms about a short walk down the concourse, not inside the restaurant. Tip in Ethiopian birr if you have it; 10–15% on a 400–600 ETB bill lands well. One practical move: order a shared injera platter and bottled water, skip dessert, and you can be in and out in about 35 minutes.
