Taxi Parking

Official rank

Two minutes outside T1/T2 arrivals, the “taxi parking” is chaos

Walk about 2 minutes straight out of Addis Ababa Bole’s T1 or T2 arrivals and you hit what locals call the taxi parking: a mixed curb and lot where yellow taxis, hotel shuttles, and private drivers all queue together. There’s no proper multi‑level garage here, just rows of cars and a tight roadway looping around the public parking area.

This is an official taxi rank in name, but not in feel. Signage is minimal, and multiple TripAdvisor reviews mention “poor signage” and “unhelpful” staff in this arrivals zone. Expect drivers for pre‑booked transfers to stand in the same general lot as regular taxis, often holding paper signs or just watching arriving passengers at peak times.

The taxi area sits immediately beyond the first arrivals forecourt, past the initial drop‑off lane and security cordon. Many FlyerTalk users report that their drivers tell them to walk down the short ramp, then straight into the parking lot to meet at a specific row. Count on 2–5 minutes on foot from the baggage hall doors to the far end of the lot, depending on crowds.

Regulars rarely rely on wandering the ranks. They usually pre‑arrange a pickup with a hotel or known driver, agree on a clear landmark like a specific light pole or pedestrian crossing in the lot, and then share a live location on WhatsApp once outside. Screenshot your driver’s plate number or car model before you land; it makes finding the right Toyota among dozens faster.

Watch out for confusion at busy times, especially after evening long‑hauls arriving into ADD between 06:00 and 09:00 local time. Third‑party transfer users often report 10–15 minutes of searching among cars. Tip: buy a local eSIM or activate roaming before you exit, then call or message your driver as soon as you pass customs and state “I’m at T2 exit door X, walking toward the main parking.”
