Seven-minute drive links T1 to Dyce Railway Station

Dyce Railway Station sits about 2 miles from Aberdeen International Airport’s T1, giving you a quick rail link into Aberdeen city centre and beyond. Trains on the Aberdeen–Inverness line stop here, so you can head toward Aberdeen, Inverurie, Elgin or Inverness without going via Aberdeen bus terminals.

There’s no rail platform inside T1, so you need a short taxi or rideshare from the airport forecourt to Dyce Station; in light traffic that run usually takes 5–10 minutes. Local buses on routes that serve Dyce also operate between the airport and the village, but factor in extra time for stops along Dyce Drive and Victoria Street.

Dyce trains typically run every 30–60 minutes during daytime hours, with more gaps late evenings and on Sundays. The ride from Dyce to Aberdeen Station in the city centre takes around 10 minutes on ScotRail services, which then connect to longer-distance trains toward Edinburgh, Glasgow and the south.

Anytime Single fares Dyce–Aberdeen usually land in the £3–£5 range, depending on time and ticket type. Buy tickets from the station machine before boarding, or use ScotRail’s mobile app if you have data at T1; on some quieter services conductors sell tickets on board, but don’t bank on it during peak commuter periods around 08:00–09:00 and 16:30–18:00.

Dyce Railway Station is unstaffed for parts of the day, and facilities are basic: shelter on each platform, standard seating, departure screens and ticket machines. Step-free access is available via ramps, but moving between the two platforms can involve a footbridge, so check which side your train uses before you commit to climbing stairs with a 23 kg suitcase.

Step-by-step: airport to Dyce Railway Station

  • 1. Land at Aberdeen International Airport T1 and clear arrivals; this can take 15–30 minutes with checked bags.
  • 2. Exit the terminal and head to the taxi rank or rideshare pick-up directly outside T1; confirm with the driver that you’re going to “Dyce Railway Station on the Aberdeen–Inverness line.”
  • 3. Ride the 5–10 minutes to the station via Dyce Drive and Victoria Street; in rush hour add another 5–10 minutes for local traffic.
  • 4. At the station, use the ticket machine to buy a Dyce–Aberdeen ticket (typically around £3–£5) or open the ScotRail app and purchase a mobile ticket.
  • 5. Check the electronic board for the next train toward Aberdeen, Inverurie or Inverness and confirm the platform number; most Aberdeen-bound trains use the platform facing the car park.
  • 6. Board when announced, keep your ticket or QR code ready for inspection, and expect about 10 minutes to Aberdeen city centre or around 2 hours 30 minutes if you’re staying on toward Inverness.

One practical tip: if your arrival into T1 is after 22:00, check the Dyce timetable before you leave baggage reclaim; a late inbound flight plus the 5–10 minute transfer can easily push you past the last train of the night.
