AU$2–4 bus ride beats taxi prices if you’ve got time
Albury Airport Local Buses run from T1 into Albury and Wodonga for about AU$2–4 per person, versus roughly AU$20+ for a short taxi hop. The ride takes around 20–25 minutes into central Albury compared with about 7 minutes in a cab, so you’re trading money for time.
Services run roughly every 60 minutes, with some extra runs in the morning and afternoon peaks and thinner coverage in the middle of the day. If your flight lands just after a bus has left, you can be looking at an hour or more waiting outside T1, which feels long on such a short 5–7 km corridor.
The stop sits a short walk outside the T1 terminal, signed as a regular CDC/Transit Systems regional route rather than a dedicated airport line. You pay standard local fares in the AU$2–4 range depending on zone and concession, so solo travellers and locals with light bags win big compared with a taxi minimum flagfall.
Headed into central Albury, the bus runs you straight into town in about 20–25 minutes, which is fine if you’re not racing to a meeting or a train at Albury Station. For Wodonga, Rome2Rio’s routing often pairs the airport leg with a transfer to a more frequent Albury–Wodonga trunk bus, so door-to-door time can push past 30–40 minutes.
What regulars do: locals often walk or grab a short lift from the terminal out to the main highway or a nearby suburban stop to tap into higher-frequency Albury–Wodonga runs instead of sitting at the airport stop. That swap can cut waits from an hour down to 10–20 minutes depending on the time of day.
Watch out for the gaps: Rome2Rio users call out the “isn’t that frequent” service, with hour-long headways off-peak making it a bad idea if you’re trying to catch one of the limited daily flights out of ABX. Build at least a 60–90 minute buffer between scheduled bus arrival and your T1 check-in cutoff.
Practical tip: before you board your flight into ABX, screenshot the latest CDC/Transit Systems timetable and note the next two departures after your scheduled arrival; if the gap is ugly, plan a quick walk or rideshare to a trunk-stop instead of waiting at the terminal bay.
