Official taxi service

Daytime arrivals at ABV usually default to Green Taxi

The official Green Taxi rank sits directly outside both T1 and T2 arrivals, so you walk out of customs, turn toward the signed taxi area, and you’re there in under 2–3 minutes. This is the airport-backed option, so you’re not dealing with unmarked cars or random touts. It’s the standard move for first-time visitors landing during daylight hours who just want a car and a fare quote without opening an app.

Green Taxi runs from the first arrivals wave around 06:00 until late evening, roughly tracking scheduled flights in T1 and T2. Cars wait at the curb, usually in a visible line near the terminal exits, so you don’t pre-book through an app or website. At quieter times, you may have to wait 5–10 minutes for more cars to roll up as flights land. Late‑night arrivals after 23:00 sometimes see fewer taxis on the stand, so have a backup number or hotel car if you land on the last flights.

Fares are negotiated on the spot, and quoted in Nigerian naira, so have cash ready in notes of ₦500–₦1,000 rather than only ₦5,000 bills. There’s no meter in typical Abuja airport taxis, so confirm the total price clearly before you put your bag in the trunk. Ask for a price to a known point, like Wuse, Maitama, or the Central Business District, and expect the driver to quote based on distance and traffic rather than a printed table.

How to use Green Taxi step by step

  • 1. Clear immigration and customs in T1 or T2, then follow “TAXI” or “GROUND TRANSPORT” signs toward the terminal exit.
  • 2. Ignore anyone approaching inside the hall and walk the 50–100 meters to the official Green Taxi rank just outside arrivals.
  • 3. Tell the dispatcher or first driver your destination by area name, for example “Maitama” or “Wuse 2,” and ask for the total fare in naira.
  • 4. Agree the fare clearly, take 5–10 seconds to repeat the number out loud, then only load your luggage once you’re both aligned.
  • 5. Pay in cash at the end of the ride, using smaller notes if possible, and keep one photo of the license plate in case you forget something in the car.

One practical tip: screenshot your hotel address with a map pin before you land at ABV, then show that to the Green Taxi driver so you’re both aiming for the same street and district from minute one.
