Last-minute pharaoh magnets and keychains in ABS T1

Right after security in T1 at Abu Simbel Airport, Souvenir Shop 1 is the small post-checkpoint stall with papyrus prints, miniature Nefertiti busts, and fridge magnets all crammed into one room. It’s the main spot in ABS if you suddenly remember you promised someone a Ramses II trinket before boarding your return flight.

Hours loosely track flight times in T1, so the shop tends to open around the first morning departure and close after the last afternoon movement; don’t count on late-evening access if a charter gets canceled. Stock leans heavily on under-200 EGP items: magnets, bookmarks, keychains, and small statues that fit in a personal item.

Prices here, like at many Egyptian airport shops mentioned in Egypt Travel Tips groups, usually run higher than city markets in Aswan or Cairo, sometimes double for the same 50–100 EGP magnet or papyrus bookmark. Figure you’re paying a markup for not having to haggle on a street corner 280 km away.

Regulars on Egypt forums say they buy almost everything in town or at museum shops and treat airport souvenir stores as a backup only. Souvenir Shop 1 then becomes the place to grab one last 150–300 EGP gift if you forgot a relative or coworker, not the core of your shopping plan.

Watch out for quoted “discounts” off inflated starting prices; if a small statue starts at 600 EGP, aim closer to 300–350 EGP or just walk. Quick tip: check a couple of price tags on magnets and mini busts before committing, then buy all your pieces in one haggle to keep the total down.
