Café

T1

T1’s “Café” is really a small kiosk near departures

This Café in Abu Simbel Airport’s T1 is more stand than restaurant: think a single counter by the gate area, opening roughly 1–2 hours before each EgyptAir or charter departure. It sits airside after security, so you can only use it once you’ve checked in and passed screening. If your flight is the only one that day, expect the shutters to stay down until that specific check‑in wave starts.

Opening hours track the flight schedule rather than a fixed 09:00–21:00 window, and that catches people out. Travelers who arrive more than three hours before an early morning return to Aswan report finding the Café completely closed, with staff nowhere around. If you’re on an afternoon or off‑peak charter, assume the stand opens roughly when the first passengers start gathering at the single gate.

Food-wise, set your expectations low: reviews describe “just a small café/kiosk” with bottled water, sodas, juice boxes, and packaged snacks like chips and chocolate bars, not hot meals. Don’t expect sandwiches, fresh pastries, or any kind of cooked plate; multiple Egypt trip reports say there is effectively no real menu, only grab‑and‑go items lined up in a small fridge and on one or two shelves.

Prices run higher than in Aswan town, though still modest if you’re used to London or New York airports. Think maybe paying the equivalent of 20–30 EGP more for a 500 ml water than at a local corner shop on Corniche El Nil in Aswan. With zero competition inside T1, the Café can charge a premium for basics, especially cold drinks in the afternoon heat.

Regulars flying this route usually eat in Aswan first, then bring a couple of 1.5 L bottles of water and snacks from town for the bus ride and airport wait. They treat the Café as backup only: a last bottle of cold water or a soda before boarding the short hop back to Aswan or onward to Cairo. Some also grab a snack here if they underestimated how long the temple visit plus transfer would take.

Practical tip: buy food and drinks in Aswan before the drive, then use the Café only if it’s open and you need one more cold bottle while you sit at the single gate in T1.
