Main Terminal hosts Ethiopian Airlines.
Main Terminal at Kebri Dahar (ABK)
One reviewer flat out says Kabri Dahar “doesn't have [a] terminal,” which is the right mental model for the Main Terminal. Think single Ethiopian Airlines turboprop at a time, basic ground setup, and very little that feels like a conventional airport building.
Ethiopian Airlines is the only carrier using ABK, and all flights run through this Main Terminal area. Expect simple boarding via the ramp or buses, security guards and bag handlers outside, and minimal signage compared with Addis or Dire Dawa.
Check-in usually happens close to departure time, tied to the Ethiopian Airlines turboprop schedule. With one airline and a small passenger load, lines are short, but everything moves on local time, so don’t treat a printed departure like an immovable slot.
Multiple reviews mention seeing “security guards, and bag handlers, and some buses behind them” instead of desks and jet bridges. Think more regional airstrip than glass terminal: staff direct you where to stand, when to move, and which vehicle to follow.
There are no catalogued restaurants at the Main Terminal, and nothing like a food court or bar. Eat in town before you arrive, or bring sealed snacks and water, since you can’t bank on buying anything airside.
No lounges show up in any ABK listings, including for Ethiopian’s own premium passengers. Even Star Alliance status doesn’t change that; everyone waits in the same basic holding area or near the buses when boarding starts.
Shops are also absent from the records: no duty free, no newsstand, no pharmacy. If you need a SIM card, basic medicine, or a power bank, sort it in Kebri Dahar itself or at a larger hub like Addis Ababa Bole before flying here.
Security at ABK feels more manual than machine-driven, with visible guards and simple checks. Plan on your bags being physically handled and possibly opened, and keep electronics and documents easy to show without repacking your whole suitcase on the ground.
Ground transport links are informal; you won’t see branded airport taxis lined in numbered bays. Most travelers arrange a pickup with a local driver or organization, so confirm the meeting point in advance and carry a local number for backup.
One practical tip: treat the Ethiopian Airlines schedule as the only structure you can rely on, and handle everything else—food, cash, transport, and connectivity—before you show up at Kabri Dahar Main Terminal.
