Terminal 1’s Kantin UMKM keeps food prices closer to city levels
In Terminal 1 after security at AAP, Kantin UMKM runs more like a local canteen than a glossy airport franchise. The 3.5-star average rating tracks with the setup: simple counter service, limited seating, and dishes that look like what you’d find at a neighborhood warung rather than a mall food court. You’re paying airport uplift, but not the 2x or 3x markup you see at many Indonesian hubs.
This spot sits landside-facing the main domestic departure area of Terminal 1, so you can grab something even if you’re only dropping someone off for a 07:00 Lion Air departure. Most plates land in the roughly IDR 25,000–40,000 range, which is lower than the chain cafés closer to the boarding gates in T1. Figure 10–15 minutes from order to food in hand at off-peak times; add another 10 minutes if there’s a lunchtime crowd around 12:00–13:00.
Menu boards tend to rotate through basic Indonesian staples: some kind of nasi or mie dish, a few side items, and bottled drinks in the IDR 8,000–15,000 band. If you spot pre-packed nasi bungkus or rice boxes under about IDR 30,000, that’s usually the quickest option before a 16:30 departure to Balikpapan. Freshly cooked items can run slower, especially if a couple of groups order ahead of you. Don’t expect barista coffee here; stick to bottled tea, water, or canned soft drinks.
Hours generally track the domestic schedule, with shutters up before the first departures around 05:00 and most items winding down once the last wave of evening flights clears, often around 21:00–22:00. Stock thins later in the day, so if your flight leaves after 20:00, buy earlier and carry it to the gate. One practical move: check your gate on the Terminal 1 screens first, then stop at Kantin UMKM so you’re not backtracking with hot food and a boarding call already in progress.
